History lifeboat class Carlot
The lifeboats type Carlot were based on the lifeboat Prins Hendrik from 1951. In 1960 the Carlot entered service, followed by the Bernard van Leer (1965), the Gebroeders Luden (1965), Johanna Louisa (1968) and finally the Suzanna (1968). Until the 2000s the Carlot type sailed for the Dutch lifeboat company (KNRM).
These lifeboats sailed out countless times between 1960 and 2000 and saved thousands of people from the sea. Famous rescues include those of the radio ship Radio Veronica in 1973. After the KNRM period, the ships of the type Carlot served on the Dutch Caribbean and Iceland. Nowadays all the ships have become museum ships in the Netherlands.
