History PSD ferry Prinses Margriet
For years, the Dutch ferry Prinses Margriet sailed for the PSD (Provinciale Stoomboot Diensten in Zeeland), known for the Vlissingen-Breskens and Kruiningen-Perkpolder ferry services. The Prinses Margriet ferry was known in Zeeland and far beyond for its fantastic sailing characteristics, even with windforce 11. The Margriet type ferries also had the cosiest lounges.
The Prinses Margriet (1964) had two sister ships, the Prinses Beatrix (1958) and the Prinses Irene (1960). TESO’s (Texel’s Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming) Marsdiep (1964) and Texelstroom (1966) design was loosely based on the designs of the single-deck PSD ferries. The last single-deck ferry in Zeeland, the Prinses Margriet, was taken out of service in 1995 and sold to China a year later.
From 2002 the Margriet sailed in Indonesia, where the ferry was scrapped in 2018. In the 1/1250 scale, the Prinses Margriet ferry is 8.16 cm long and almost 1.5 cm wide. The scale model is extremely detailed and has been professionally painted in her latest PSD color scheme.
