Ferry Molengat

The Molengat was the first twin car deck ferry ordered by TESO (Texel’s Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming). Our 1:1250 Molengat measures 7 cm x 1.4 cm. The ship has great details and fits perfectly with the Texelstroom (1966) model.

History ferry Molengat

The ferry was built at Verolme shipyard in Heusden and came into service in 1980. The ship was the first double-deck ferry ordered by TESO, which used the ship from 1980 to 2007 on the Den Helder-Texel service. At the time the Molengat was a very modern ship, equipped with a multi chine-hull and two Voith-Schneiders as propulsion.

Because the construction facilities in Den Helder and ‘t Horntje on Texel were not (yet) suitable for double-deck ferries, the Molengat could only use both car decks from 1986 onwards. In 1990 TESO launched a second double-decker, the Schulpengat, which was also built at the Verolme shipyard. The new ferry Dokter Wagemaker (2005) replaced the Molengat, which was eventually sold in 2008 and was converted into an offshore work vessel.

In the 1:1250 scale, our Molengat measures 7 cm long and 1.4 cm wide. Just like all ships from BFT1250.nl, the Molengat has been designed on the basis of the original building plans. The ferry is equipped with great details. The color scheme relates to the version the ship sailed from 1990 to 2008. It has dark yellow chimneys and yellow doors. The ferry Molengat is a fantastic addition to your model collection.
